Title:

Opening Up: Performance, Storytelling, and Vulnerability in the Classroom

Abstract:

Is your classroom a place where students are inspired to embrace their true selves? Or does it feel like pulling teeth to get your students to talk to you? How do we reconcile being the "adult in charge" with our position as mentors and allies to young people? Opening Up is a hands-on workshop that explores performance, storytelling, and vulnerability as practical frameworks for engaging and empowering students. Participants will examine their pedagogy and experiences with student resistance through psychosomatic exercises, mentor texts, close reads, and small group activities that can be easily replicated in their own schools.
